چکیده

We use a large dark matter simulation of a cold dark matter ( CDM) model to investigate the clustering and environmental dependence of the number of substructures in a halo. Focusing on redshift z = 1, we find that the halo occupation distribution is sensitive at the tens of per cent level to the surrounding density and to a lesser extent to asymmetry of the surrounding density distribution. We compute the autocorrelation function of haloes as a function of occupation, building on the finding of Wechsler et al. and Gao & White that haloes (at fixed mass) with more substructure are more clustered. We compute the relative bias as a function of occupation number at fixed mass, finding a strong relationship. At fixed mass, haloes in the top 5 per cent of occupation can have an autocorrelation function ∼1.5–2 times higher than the mean. We also compute the bias as a function of halo mass, for fixed halo occupation. We find that for groupand cluster-sized haloes, when the number of subhaloes is held fixed, there is a strong anticorrelation between bias and halo mass. Such a relationship represents an additional challenge to the halo model.

Are Galaxy Properties Only Determined by the Dark Matter Halo Mass?

Conditional luminosity function (CLF) of dark matter halos supersedes simple models on the number of galaxies as a function of the halo mass, or the so-called halo occupation number, by assigning a luminosity distribution to those galaxies. Suggestions have now been made that both the clustering strength and properties of hosted galaxies of a given dark matter halo depends also on the age and t...

Second Moment of Halo Occupation Number

The halo approach to large scale structure provides a physically motivated model to understand clustering properties of galaxies. An important aspect of the halo model involves a description on how galaxies populate dark matter halos or what is now called the halo occupation distribution. We discuss a way in which clustering information, especially in the non-linear regime, can be used to deter...

The Halo Occupation Distribution of HI Galaxies

We perform an analysis of the spatial clustering properties of HI selected galaxies from the HI Parkes All Sky Survey (HIPASS) using the formalism of the halo occupation distribution (HOD). The resulting parameter constraints show that the fraction of satellite galaxies (i.e. galaxies which are not the central member of their host dark matter halo) among HIPASS galaxies is < 20%, and that satel...

An analytical model for the non-linear redshift-space power spectrum

We use N-body simulations to test the predictions of the redshift distortion in the power spectrum given by the halo model in which the clustering of dark matter particles is considered as a result both of the clustering of dark halos in space and of the distribution of dark matter particles in individual dark halo. The predicted redshift distortion depends sensitively on several model paramete...

The age dependence of halo clustering

We use a very large simulation of the concordance ΛCDM cosmogony to study the clustering of dark matter haloes. For haloes less massive than about 10hM⊙ the amplitude of the two-point correlation function on large scales depends strongly on halo formation time. Haloes that assembled at high redshift are substantially more clustered than those that assembled more recently. The effect is a smooth...
